SAWIT is mandated with the following two primary objectives:

  • transformation and growth of historically disadvantaged individuals within the South African wine industry;
  • commercial development and promotion of the South African wine industry to ensure global competitiveness and sustainability.

In order to fulfil its key objectives, SAWIT set up the following bodies:

  • BUSCO (wine industry Business Support Company)
  • DEVCO (wine industry Development Support Company) and
  • WIECO (Wine Industry Empowerment Company), which it guides.

BUSCO Is committed to technology transfer, wine research and development. Through BUSCO, SAWIT provides funds to

WINETECH that provides the South African wine industry with world-class research and technology transfer to strengthen local and international competitiveness through best practice.

WIECO promotes and facilitates the economic empowerment of previously disadvantaged communities through ownership changes, capacity building, the development of management structures and increasing their access to economic activities and infrastructure.

DEVCO precipitates social transformation through direct support and intervention, with a strong focus on black economic empowerment and wine farm community development and upliftment to ensure global competitiveness of the South African wine industry.
